Why Axis360 · Build vs. Buy

You could build this on Stripe. Here's what that costs.

Stripe is excellent and we're not going to pretend otherwise. For a single-currency, card-only, web-only service, Stripe plus some glue code is a legitimate answer. This page is about what happens when you're not that.

Credit Where It's Due

What Stripe gives you.

Payments, subscriptions, invoicing, test clocks and now entitlements. Genuinely good, well documented, cheap to start.

Payments & subscriptions
Invoicing & test clocks
Access model, reconciliation, storefront — not included
What You'd Still Be Building

The part that doesn't show up in the Stripe docs.

  • An access model for content — package and asset level, with expiry and revocation
  • A reconciliation job to catch the gap between what's billed and what's accessible
  • App-store receipt handling and reconciliation
  • A storefront, checkout, account area and paywall
  • A second gateway for markets Stripe doesn't process in — and the reconciliation between the two
  • Dunning tuned to your market's decline reasons
  • FX normalisation and a reporting currency your finance team trusts
  • An audit trail, a webhook inbox and a replay mechanism, before your first serious incident
And Then You'd Maintain It

Every gateway API change. Every new market. Every new pricing model your commercial team invents.

Forever, with the same engineers you'd rather have working on your product.

FAQ

Build vs. buy, answered directly.

Isn't Stripe enough on its own?

For a single-currency, card-only, web-only product, yes — Stripe plus some glue code is a legitimate answer. Axis360 exists for everything past that: multiple currencies, multiple gateways, app stores, and the operational load of running all of it long-term.

What does Stripe not include that we'd have to build ourselves?

An access model with expiry and revocation, reconciliation between billing and entitlements, app-store receipt handling, a storefront and checkout, a second gateway for markets Stripe doesn't reach, dunning tuned to local decline reasons, FX normalisation, and an audit trail with webhook replay — all real engineering projects, not configuration.

Isn't this just a one-time build cost?

No — it's ongoing. Every gateway API change, every new market, and every new pricing model your commercial team invents becomes work for the same engineers, indefinitely, on top of your actual product.

Can we start on Stripe and move to Axis360 later?

Yes — that's what the migration path is for. Data is staged and rehearsed against a full billing cycle before anything moves, so switching later doesn't mean switching off.

Does Axis360 replace Stripe, or work with it?

It works with it. You keep your Stripe (and Paystack) relationship, rates, and payouts — Axis360 adds the access model, reconciliation, storefront, and multi-market layer on top.
